Samurai Karate Studio To Present Anti-Bully Workshop

Bullying is an epidemic problem these days!

Statistically, the latest data shows approximately 33% of all kids get bullied at least once by the time they reach college. I believe this number is grossly understated because there is a high percentage of children that do not report bullying because:

A. They are afraid to make the situation worse and fear the bully will retaliate.
B. They don't want to be labeled a "Tattle Tale" by classmates.
C. They develop a sense of hopelessness, believing no one can help them.

The problem has gotten worse, due to the fact that schools have developed stringent anti-bully policies where, in many instances, both the bully and the child being bullied, get suspended from school. This is because most parents, tell their children if they get bullied, they are allowed to fight back.

The Side Effects

Many children who are bullied often become very shy and reclusive, grades slip and self esteem plummets!

During the past few years, there has been an alarming rise in suicides, which many doctors believe can be attributed to bullying.

I know first hand what it feels like to be bullied, as I encountered several bullies from 4th grade to 9th grade, and I can understand the fear that often manifests itself when a child is picked on constantly.

And while physical confrontation is typically brought on by boys, girls get bullied just as much, but in a different kind of way -- they get verbally assaulted constantly about the way they look, their hair, their clothing, and who they hang out with.

Ok, What Can We Do About It?

There is a lot that can be done and I am inviting students, parents and friends to attend my FREE anti-bully workshop on:

Time: Saturday, March 20th at 1:00pm
Location: Samurai Karate Studio
2000 Clemson Road
Suite # 9
Columbia, SC 29229
Located in the Magnolia Pointe Shopping Center

The workshop is open to children and parents age 7 years and up.

The approximate 1 hour workshop will cover:

* The number #1 thing kids can do to defeat the bully!
* Conflict avoidance.
* The power of your voice!
* Self defense techniques that are defensive in nature, NOT offensive, to help the child break free and seek and adult for protection.

I am accepting up to 30 children for this FREE workshop, so please email me today at samuraikarate@bellsouth.net if you would like to attend this event.

I am very passionate about this topic and my goal is to reduce or minimize the impact of bullying as much as possible!
